Monaco holds a historical value. According to the ancient myth, Hercules passed through Monaco to turn away the previous gods. Hence, a temple was constructed. It was called the temple of Hercules Monoikos.
The word Monoikos comes from Greek. It means single house. The area was considered to be the house of Hercules. Since then, the city was called Monoikos, which the name Monaco came from.
The Église Sainte-Dévote or Saint Devota Chapel is a Roman Catholic chapel dedicated to the patron saint of Monaco. The chapel was first mentioned in archived documents from 1070.
Besides the chapel, there are many other historical sites such as the Oceanographic Musem, Palace of Monaco, and Cathedral. This additional value to the city-state lifts up the prestige of people who live in Monaco.
