According to Google the most expensive car in the world is Mercedes-Benz W196.
The car was Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 entry in 1954 and 1955. This beauty won 9 of 12 races it entered; behind the wheel were Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss, racing the car through victory.
Its engine? The 1954 Formula One rules allowed engines of 2.5 litres naturally aspirated or, alternatively, 0.75 liters supercharged.
The expected target range for competitive engines was 250 to 300 bhp (190 to 220 kW).
But you know that everything must come to an end.
And so it happened with the car which captured the two World Championships; the Mercedes car was withdrew from motorsport at the end of the 1955 season by the company.
